Celebration of International Yoga Day 2021 India:

International Yoga Day is observed annually on June 21. The main significance of this day is to create awareness about yoga and its numerous benefits. Yoga is an ancient meditation technique that cleanses, heals and harmonies the body from the core, i.e. mentally and physically. It is a practice that is widely followed even in Western cultures for its tremendous capacity to bring about a great improvement in mind and body balance, wellness of the mind, and an overall sense of punitiveness.

International Yoga Day: 2021 Date:

This year, International Yoga Day 2021 will be celebrated on Monday i.e. today and our Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the seventh International Yoga Day event at 6:30am. The theme for the International Day of Yoga this year is 'Yoga for wellness', a motto aligned with the current preoccupations.

2021 International Day of Yoga, to be observed today, i.e. Monday (June 21), carries the theme "Yoga for well-being", much relevant for our times in a society still recovering from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

History and Importance of International Yoga Day 2021: 

The idea of an International Yoga Day was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 at the United Nations General Assembly Meeting (UNGA) 2014. In his speech, Prime Minister Modi called Yoga an "invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition" and called for the "harmony between man and nature" through Yoga. This initiative was backed by as many as 177 nations, the highest number of co-sponsors ever for any UNGA Resolution of such nature.

Improving Mental Health:

The unfortunate situation of Covid-19 was not just a physical crisis, it also left lasting impacts on mental health along with many left in psychological suffering, depression, and anxiety dealing with the pandemic-necessitated restrictions and loss. In such a situation, Yoga can come to the help of people dealing with such suffering. That's why the importance of Yoga increases in such conditions and we can improve our psychological health by just adding Yoga to our daily routine.
